Welcome Dr Norbertta Makumbe (nee Washaya)
Norbertta is a Pediatric Pulmonologist who is passionate about child health, especially child respiratory health, because, after newborn illnesses, respiratory disease is the most common cause of childhood illness.
She trained in general pediatrics at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, under the University of Cape Town and obtained her Fellowship of the College of Pediatricians of South Africa (FC Paeds) in 2018. After which she spent 6 months as a Senior Registrar in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital.
She then went on to further sub-specialize in pediatric pulmonology, also at Red Cross Children’s Hospital, under the University of Cape Town. She completed her training in pediatric pulmonology in 2021.
Furthermore, Norbertta is an avid teacher and trainer and has run multiple courses and trainings on pediatric resuscitation. She is passionate about medical education and is currently a course director for the internationally recognized Advanced Pediatric Life Support Course.
Her specialty includes acute and chronic childhood respiratory care, asthma care, chronic cough investigation & management, flexible bronchoscopy services, ventilation (in hospital & home ventilation) and tracheostomy care.
Outside of work she enjoys spending quality time with her husband and her 2 sons.
